For me he came to my graduation as a father figure. Likewise to my wedding.
I remember him as a popular personality in Chava driving around in his car.
Exciting of all — and much to my fear — was when even the “jail doors”
 would open on his command.
He was more like a friend than Grandmama.

From as far as we can remember, his relationship with us had remained the same — one of genuine love and friendship. He had this amazing ability to see the positive in people and connect only with that.
In leaving us, he has sown the seeds of love, kindness, compassion and most of all that CAN DO attitude. And this must flourish into a beautiful thottam.
As I draw back the curtains every morning, I am greeted by a sea of vivid, bright orange plants — beautiful Chinese lanterns.
I see them as I walk out. I see them as I drive in. I seem to notice them all the time. I remember Chithappa giving me one plant carefully wrapped and placed in a tiny pot. I reluctantly accepted it as I am not good with plants and thought he was wasting this delicate plant on me. He said, “just put it in the ground”. And so I did.
