My brother Dr Mahadeva still remembers that in 2004 just after the tsunami how Ganesh Mama and Devi Athai rushed back to Sri Lanka to help those affected by the disaster. My brother also recalls how they all spent long hours packing and sending all the essential items to tsunami affected North and East. In order to carry out this charity work, Ganesh Mama rented a house near my brother’s place and dedicated his time and effort for this charitable work.
It was so admirable that he came back to Sri Lanka to build his house. It just shows that anything is possible, whatever stage of your life.
We will always carry your smile in our heart. And although we will miss his challenging questions about life and politics, the way he lived his life has given us all the answers.

It is an honour and privilege to pay tribute to a very special Chithappa. He was remarkable in so many ways. He lived his life to the full and touched so many people's hearts.
I grew very close to him particularly during the past few years we spent together in Jaffna. We both had the same passion for spending time there. Chithappa would often laugh and say, “look, this time I have stayed here longer than you”.
My wife and children were particularly touched by his determination to make it to my 60th birthday and give a wonderful speech. These are just a couple of things. He will be dearly missed.
