I got to know uncle after my marriage to his niece Lalitha in 1989. Whenever he came to Sri Lanka on holidays we met and enjoyed “kool parties” and dinners together. He was a good host and entertained his guests lavishly. He had a tradition to visit his relations and friends with gifts which only a very few do.

We still remember the first time we saw our beloved Ganesh Mama walking into our family home as a smart young maaplai (groom) with a gentle smile on his face. My father was really happy that his youngest sister was marrying such a nice gentleman and both become best friends since the marriage.
After marriage they were both regular visitors to our house and we were sad when they decided to move to London for further studies. Our father (96 years) was devastated when he heard the news and still complains that it should have been him not his dear friend Aruna.
