Thank you God for the 48 years of love, friendship and togetherness.
We did so much together, from voluntary work at Sri Venkateswara temple, to attending charity functions and supporting Carnatic musicians from abroad. We enjoyed family celebrations and holidays together.
Now, I stand alone without my anchor.
I feel so very blessed to have had a caring husband who always put me first, sacrificing his job prospects and his love for politics in Sri Lanka. In 1977 he came to England to support me while I continued my postgraduate studies, and later to look after the children when they joined us in 1979. When I got a post as consultant at Russells Hall Hospital, West Midlands in 1985, he again sacrificed his chances of excelling as a lawyer in London.
In 1987, Aruna developed severe arthritis which lead to life-threatening fibrosis of his lungs. Over the years he showed such resilience to many other ailments, that when he developed his most recent lung infection, I was hoping and praying that he would bounce back. I did my very best to get the best expertise and help to make him better, but it seemed that God had planned to take him away from me and so many others who loved him dearly.
He lived to see our children at their best with their wives and our beautiful grandsons. Together we enjoyed many special occasions and fun-filled holidays. Memories we will cherish forever.
Aruna’s dream home was his last and lasting achievement and he wanted it to be enjoyed by our family and friends. This dream must live on.
Goodbye my love, until we meet again.
