is important that we sound credible when we put ourselves forward. Our message has to be positive, keen for research and regulation and of course cooperation with the whole profession.
Dear All,
This is my last newsletter as President of the IAVH.
The themes of my newsletters have always been a bit the same: share your knowledge with your colleagues. Put yourself forward as a vet doing the best medicine possible, showing that homeopathy is not a fringe movement but a type of medicine that should have its rightful place within modern medicine...
I am happy to risk sounding boring by repeating myself; these messages cannot be repeated enough.
Hahnemann said to imitate him but imitate him better.
Let’s imitate the bits he did well: homeopathic medicine.
Hahnemann did not win popularity when he criticised his colleagues for the way they practiced medicine. However much he was right, it did not help homeopathy in gaining widespread acceptance. This is probably useful to remember.
In his book ‘How healing works’ Wayne Jonas wrote:
“While we improved our science and certainty for managing acute diseases, we sacrificed what most people value about being alive, and we lost how healing works in chronic illness.
Our improvements in health waned. The cost of medical care soared. The value of the mechanical and reductionist model has reached its limits.”
In my opinion this view opens the way for homeopathy to put itself forward as a solution. Such a message can easily be accepted by many, even by those who would not consider homeopathy (or other alternative medicines). It
“While we improved our science and certainty for managing acute diseases, we sacrificed what most people value about being alive, and we lost how ’ healing works in chronic illness.
