On the evening of October 4th, 2013, at the annual enshrinement ceremony held in Dayton, Ohio, MG Patrick Henry Brady, Distinguished Flying Cross Society member and recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, and (6) awards of the Distinguished Flying Cross was inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame. Brady flew over 2,500 combat missions in two tours in Vietnam and rescued over 5,000 wounded.
His contributions to the medical evacuation system, for both military casualties and civilian aero- medical ambulances, have saved countless lives by taking full advantage of enroute patient stabiliza- tion and leveraging the time essential to preserve life and limb within the ‘golden hour’.
Both his wife, Nancy, and his daughter, Meghan Brady Smith, herself an Iraq War veteran, were pre-
sent at the gala with Meghan presenting the honor. Today Brady is active in the Medal of Honor Society’s Character Development Program, dedicated to teaching our youth how to become heroes and the importance of courage, sacrifice and patriotism – to them and to America.
Since 1962 the National Aviation Hall of Fame has inducted over 200 of the nation’s premier air and space pioneers into the organization. The names are virtual who’s who in the world of aviation including the Wright Brothers, Amelia Earhart, Charles Lindbergh and astronauts John Glenn, Neil Armstrong and others.
The purpose of the National Aviation Hall of Fame is to preserve and memorialize the outstanding accomplishments of enshrinees. The goal is to create a distinctive national aviation education resource that will inspire others to appreciate and honor this nation’s extraordinary aviation legacy and the men and women who created it. The current President of the NAHF, Phillip A. Roberts, who officiated at this year’s induction ceremony, is a DFC Society member as well and a recipient of (5) Distinguished Flying Crosses.
