                                               A.C. Bhaktivedānta Swami
                                               Prabhupāda, ‘Founder Ācārya
                                               of the International Society
                                               for Kṛṣṇa Consciousness.’
                                               Peter took the spiritual name
                                               ‘Kuśakratha dāsa’ in 1971,
                                               spending many years thereafter
                                               constantly studying the ancient
                                               Vedic scriptures of India,
learning the Saṁskṛta and Bengali languages the literatures are
written in. Even before coming to Kṛṣṇa Consciousness, Kuśakratha
had been voracious reader of philosophy, studying the Bhagavad-
gītā and other spiritual literatures even as a young boy.
His spiritual master, Śrīla Prabhupāda, had translated and published
between the years of 1965 and 1977, the most important Vedic
            texts, namely Bhagavad-gītā, Bhāgavata-Purāṇa, Bhakti-rasāmṛta-
sindhu, Caitanya-Caritāmṛta, and many others establishing the
“Bhaktivedānta Book Trust” for their distribution.
Śrīla Prabhupāda on several occasions expressed his intention to
translate all the Vaiṣṇava writings for the benefit of mankind, and it
is to the credit of Kuśakratha dāsa, in service to his spiritual master,
that he has so far translated dozens of these ancient spiritual texts set
down by the chief Vedic scholars and spiritual leaders of India’s past.
We are most indebted to Kuśakratha dāsa for his prodigious output,
he has rendered a great service to all devotees of God through his
            sublime Kṛṣṇa Bhakti.
