 KEEP FIGHTING - DARK KNIGHT
1030 of 1042
 SOURCE: PIXABAY
There’s a dark knight in Perth Scotland, Staff Sergeant to the end A Royal Engineer, 59er, a Sapper most proud
His bottle of mead sits forgotten on a shelf
With a “NO!” sign hanging crooked upon his door
Demons creep in to rob his slumber...nightly raids filling dreams with thunder Of invading Iraq on an Iron beast...roaring into the battle unsuspected
Killing many...and injuring some...and sustaining wounds that will never heal Because he cannot forget the lives he lost...of those his brothers in war
Afraid to ease his pain and let them go...and forgive himself the same
Sometimes he rides with no regrets...never looking behind
With the fresh wind in his face and memories left wallowing in the dust
Posting sentries in his yard...his loyal Bravehound Irma stationed by his side
Two ducks...North and Wicca...standing guard...and his friends...his Sappers...far and wide He lets them in from time to time...when memory serves and frustration wains
They know he fights a war inside and they patiently wait...until he lets them in again Comparing battles...his body and mind feel inner strength
Dusting off that bottle of mead and drinking in a honeyed meadows rain
He straightens up and forgets his pain again
