 Two goals of the Trump administration are in conflict. President Trump says he wishes to care for Veterans but his attorney general made moves against states that chose to legalize marijuana. I get feedback like this all of the time. The testimonials often come from Veterans who never thought they’d favor legalization. CBD is not Marijuana. Whatever can help vets with PTSD or chronic pain is worth a try, especially if it’s not an addictive, opiate painkiller like the VA often prescribes. What a Veteran told me recently was with all the medications that he’s on and his buddies were on, he said, you know, the VA’s doing a far better job of trying to kill us than the Taliban ever did.
Above all else, one should be aware that the World Health Organization (WHO) issued a report that contradicted the DEA’s stance that oil derived from Cannabis has a high possibility of abuse with no medicinal value. According to the National Institute of Health, “There is significant preliminary therapeutic value of CBD. And while it is not yet sufficient for broad support of drug approval, it highlights the need for rigorous clinical research in this area. There are barriers that should be addressed to facilitate more research in this area.” Legislators, including Senator Cory Booker, have introduced legislation that would get Congress to repeal Schedule I designation.
Veronica Wayne and Christine Clayburg are two of the Veterans who attended the meetings on Congress, and both of them agreed that Hemp oil made a big difference in each of their lives. Wayne took opioids for 17 years before trying Hemp oil and getting the relief she needed. Clayburg was able to stop taking what she called a “VA zombie cocktail” in exchange for CBD oil. Not long after she was actually able to feel joy for the first time in over two years. It was obvious in these two cases alone what the benefit is from these alternative treatments via CBD or
