P.T.S.D. is a non-profit organization established to bring Veterans out to Pocatello, Idaho and take them through a two-week introductory class in the following sports: kayaking (spring), rock-climbing (summer), mountain biking (fall), or skiing/snow-boarding (winter). We accept Veterans of all ages to participate in our program. We accept any Veterans with or without a diagnosis of PTSD. In basic terms, our acceptance policy is that our nonprofit offers a 2-week course for any and all Veterans seeking a change in their current life. All that is required is a DD-214 showing that you served in the U.S. military.
We help Veterans who are struggling with their transitions by immersing them in multi- week outdoor sports camps and personalized trips. Veterans register online at https:// www.ptsdveteranatheletes.com once they complete the quick registration process. We then select Veterans based on a first come, first served basis. We pay for their flight from the nearest location and fly them directly to Pocatello, Idaho. Shortly after arriving we outfit each Veteran with all the necessary gear for his or her chosen sport. Over the two- week period we teach them the basic skills to be proficient in their newfound passion, utilizing highly experienced athletes to help guide the Veterans. There are always so many satisfying parts of each course we do. However, when our Veterans refuse to end the day without accomplishing a goal, it’s an amazing thing to watch them dig deep, not quit for the day, and make it happen. During these two weeks our Veteran athletes have all expenses covered including but not limited to travel, food and drinks, accommodations, and all gear. Once the Veterans have completed the two-week course we then donate all of the gear to the Veterans so that they may continue to pursue therapy
