“The tree which moves some to tears of joy is, in the eyes of others, only a green thing
that stands in the way. Some see nature all ridicule and deformity...and some scarcely see nature at all. But to the eyes of the man of imagination, nature is imagination itself.” - William Blake
Courtenay: One thing I will never forget is singing the ‘Summer of ’69’ on the CD player in my car with my daughter Heather. It never mattered where we were going, what type of mood either of us were in, or who might hear or see us outside of that car. I would start up that song and crank the sound up to a loud, but not overly obnoxious level, just high enough to cover our voices...sharing a smirk with her before the song began.
The song would start up and we were off...singing full blast, almost to the point that we became hoarse, each of us knowing every single word of that song even if we were nowhere near in tune.
It didn’t matter how we sounded...it was just me and my Heather...my one and only daughter...and we were both in love with just being there.
I don’t even recall when we started singing like that in the first place...it just seemed like we always did it.
We adopted our daughter at 13...and she decided to go ‘back home’ at around 17 if I recall correctly. It crushed me when she left because I thought she was already home.
It’s only just recently that she started to get in touch again...and it’s because of that same song. I’m so happy it touched her heart.
