There’s an interdependency when you’re in the military. “A lot of what has served me is I don’t know when to quit.” I always had something in my life that I was really good at. As a retiree, now I have photography. It grounds me and gives me something to do. I need to get off my butt once in a while and out of the house with my Service Dog. Today, I am more outgoing and feel that I have purpose as a result of the Task Force: ISO classes. Being behind the camera, I can hide my own feelings and capture the emotions in other people.
About Task Force: ISO
There is documented value of creative arts in physical and emotional rehabilitation. Behavior change is accomplished when we engage both sides of the brain. Healthcare providers, mental health professionals, educators and Veterans’ organizations have seen the positive impact of art, music, dance and creative writing in concert with more traditional therapies. These non-invasive and non-medication-based activities can reduce healthcare costs, promote improved cognition and concentration, improve communication skills and reduce depression. Overall, arts programming can reduce the time individuals spend in medical care and increase quality of life.
Task Force: ISO is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that engages and inspires Veterans through photography. Through our programs, Veterans gain purpose through activity and self- discovery and build community through continued mentorship and support. Expanding on the concept of its predecessor organization, Task Force has three program pillars – IMAGING: Event Photography, creating positive imagery of Veterans and showcasing their resilience; SUPPORT: Photography Training, using self-discovery through the creative arts to uncover and address
