with Takoda. They lay there staring into each other’s eyes for nearly an hour. Every once in a while, Takoda would reach out to him and touch him with his paw. They had an in-depth secret conversation while we were in their presence. What we wouldn’t give to know what they found out from each other...the Vet got up and joined in conversation with us two-legged folks. He wasn’t offering any details and we felt it intrusive to ask.
Recently an enlisted Marine came to spend the night in a Cottage we make available to the public for Thanksgiving weekend. He was part of several teams during his long career that called themselves Wolf packs. He had a Wolf that looked like our wolf Tehya tattooed on his arm. He had done several tours overseas. Forgive me for not being able to share much about their experience. It is theirs after all. Most don’t speak about it. We try not to pry, but what we witness is kind of indescribable. It is not a simple thing, it is just extraordinary. The best he could do is to say he slept better here than he had slept in years. The sound of the Wolves howling in the night was what he loved the most.
