knife upwards of 10 times. Her eyes were red and swollen, she had puncture wounds all over her head and neck. She was suffering from colitis (bleeding intestines), was severely dehydrated, and had been starved. She was absolutely exhausted. The poor thing had been though something terrible.
We can never know for sure, but it is likely that the massive online and media exposure spooked the criminals enough to dump her. It is speculated that she was stolen and brought into the dark world of dog fighting. She was likely cut and abused to find out how aggressive she could be. Poor, sweet, loving Bridget never deserved any of that.
Her recovery was a long process. She obviously had to heal from significant injuries and abuse, however, she also needed to heal emotionally...and so did I. It was one of the worst feelings I have experienced to look at Bridget, a devoted soul who had offered me unconditional love, in so much pain. We slowly recovered together.
Bridget wanted to run and play and meet new people, but at times her body wouldn't let her. She would cry out in pain if she exerted herself too much. I rubbed coconut oil on all of her wounds to help them heal, gave her daily antibiotics and anti-inflammatories, and spent a lot of time lying next to her as she recovered.
Six months from when Bridget was stolen she finally herself again, both physically and emotionally. I don't think I expected her recovery to take as long as it did. Part of that notion was that I could see the spark in her eye start to return, and I think we both wanted everything to be normal again. Her spirit was returning, but her body and mind needed more time to heal.
