“If you think dogs can't count, try putting three dog biscuits in your pocket and then give him only two of them.” - Phil Pastoret
Courtenay: This story is about a wonderful Great Dane named Charlotte and her human Paul, an Air Force Veteran. Charlotte helps Paul out with mobility, anxiety and TBI.
My own issues relating to PTSD and TBI also include panic attacks, anxiety attacks, confusion, balance problems, tinnitus, migraines, etc. We used to have a Great Dane named Odie and he only lived until he was ten years old...but they were ten wonderful years that I wouldn't trade for anything.
I recall one time when we gave Odie a bone and he was standing out in the front yard with a couple of the neighbor's kids, with his bone in his mouth. One of the girls, around four years old, was holding on to his tail and swinging it back and forth. The other girl, around three years old, reached up and took the bone right out of Odie's mouth. So, there he stood looking extremely dejected because the girl took his bone away...and he didn't know what to do. My husband had to tell her to give it back to him because we knew Odie would not take it back from her himself.
We moved into a ranch style house so I don't have to worry about issues with stairs for myself or a dog and we put in a non-skid floor so that we wouldn't have the dog slipping and sliding on the floor like Bambi on ice.
I have a strange issue with falling up the stairs rather than down, and can't for the life of me figure out why, so being without stairs altogether was the best thing for us.
