Charlotte the Great Dane - Paul: I served in the U.S. Air Force from October 1992 through January 2000 and October 2000 through July 2017. This included assignments at: Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, TX from December 1992 to April 1993; Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, OH from April 1993 to January 1994; Travis Air Force Base, Fairborn, CA from January 1994 to January 2000; Travis Air Force Base, 349th Air Base Wing Reserves from January 2000 to January 2004; Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, OH from January 2004 to June 2006; Royal Air Force, Lakenheath England from June 2006 to June 2009; Mississippi State University, Air Force Institute of Technology, Ph.D. Program from June 2009 to June 2012; Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, OH from June 2012 to July 2017.
I could have ended up with a lot of other jobs but, as a science guy by trade, working in a medical laboratory was great. I would go back and do it all again, without hesitation. I ended up with a job I was good at and enjoyed the challenges. The military showed me that I was part of a greater good and gave me the drive to succeed not for my own personal gain but to benefit others. Even after being medically retired my military experience resulted in me continuing to volunteer in my community...and to think of our community not just myself.
