                    Junior Class Officers: Mary Cammack, Lydia Wynn, Teresa McGowen, Gail Williams,
                                                            Bonni Rucker, Corina Alston

            •  Patricia Collins was appointed Student Intern in the office of Mayor Alvin Allen.  Her appointment

               was the first in a proposed series of student internships in offices of government throughout the

               South.
            •  March 13 – 18, Bonnie Bohannon and Ann Lanier appeared in Macbeth, along with Broadway

               stars Diana Sands and Harold Scott.

            •  Mary Susan Parker was highlighted in the Spelman Spotlight as one of Spelman College’s Best
               Dressed!!

            •  At the Annual Awards Day, Miriam McReynolds received the Florence M. Read Award and

               Maurine McDaniel received the Felicia B Hurd Art Award.

            •  Solicitor General Thurgood Marshall takes his seat as the first African American Justice on the
               United States Supreme Court on July 13. In July, riots erupted in Newark and Detroit resulting in


               66 deaths, over 1900 injuries and 8,500 arrests.
