Reminiscing
by Elizabeth “Beth” Willis Brown
Nineteen Sixty- five Leaders assassinated Ready to tackle the world
A parade of young women Civil Rights protests Fifty years have passed
Pretty white dresses A spirit of rebellion Gratefully “Golden” we are
Denoted the occasion Change is on the way Seasoned with wisdom
Traditions honored Lock-In of Spelman trustees Wives, mothers and sisterfriends
Headed to Sisters Chapel Graduation comes The legacy lasts
All freshmen we were The year, nineteen sixty- nine We are the women of change
Gathered gleefully in awe A sea of black robes Standards and honor we raise
Our journey awaits Flesh toned stockings and black shoes The fight undaunted
Fair Spelman in sisterhood Through the arch we march Spelman graduates
Spelmanites we are Sisters Chapel is aglow
Speaking to the legacy To its doors we head
Spelman Achievers Alex Haley gives the charge
Manley, Rates, Chivers expound In reverence all
Four years of striving Some anxious, sad, happy too
Through turbulent history Emotions abound
Anti-war protests
