Snack Shop/Mailroom

                     by Herstory Project Committee

The Snack Shop was the center or activity

between classes almost daily. We went to
Packard Hall to pick up our mail from our
assigned mailboxes. Often, we would purchase a
grill cheese with chilli sandwich, soda, chips and
maybe two scoops of cherry vanilla ice cream as
we lingered to talk or play cards. The snack shop

was not only visited by our sisters, but many
Morehouse guys and other guys who dated or
were interested in the Spelman sisters were there
too. It was our on campus hangout.

The space was small, the crowd was good, the
atmosphere was friendly, and those who used it

for a hangout usually knew campus gossip.
Memorial moments and long lasting friendships
were developed in the snack shop. Hanging out
paid for some of us because The Wheelers (Mary
Susan Parker and Eddie Wheeler) got engaged in
the snack shop. Who knows whether the snack

shop was a stumbling block to academic
achievement; but at any rate, most of us
        graduated.
