James G. Esch Duran Founder & CEO
James was born in Central California before moving to Colorado in his early years. He was inspired to be an inventor and entrepreneur by his grandfather, Dr. Jim Esch. Dr. Esch pioneered arthroscopy through a number of patented devices and techniques and was one of the first doctors to found an independent surgery center, and started the San Diego Shoulder Institute. On the other side of the family, James was
inspired by the work ethic of his other grandfather, Gilbert Duran. Mr. Duran worked in the fields of Southern California before joining the Marines and serving in Korea and Vietnam.
After attending Regis Jesuit High School, James enrolled at Dartmouth College. Here, James pursued his passions for economics, religion, and business development. While at The College, James discovered the benefits of mindfulness through Buddhist studies, but still found himself forgetting to practice mindfulness techniques. To solve this problem, James invented Lightflow and founded Animatra. In his free time, James enjoys writing music, lifting weights, and armchair philosophy. James hopes to one day release an album with his sister.
