Peter Payne
Mindfulness Science Advisor
Peter Payne is a researcher at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. He received his BA in Social Relations from Harvard in 1966, and since then has immersed himself in the study of the Asian mind-body systems as well as the Western Somatic approaches. He is a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique,
and a practitioner of Somatic Experiencing and the Subtle Self work. He has taught Qigong and Taijiquan for over 40 years. He has taught at Antioch New England in the M.A. for Humanistic Psychology program, and in the Vermont College adult degree program.
His main focus is on developing a neuroscientific framework for understanding the mind-body approaches. He has published several papers on this topic and is currently conducting clinical trials on the effects of meditative movement on mental and physical health. He is also developing a series of innovative videos for teaching meditative movement to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. He is building his own Hobbit House on a mountainside in Vermont.
