THE PSYCHOLOGY BEHIND LIGHTFLOW: A BRIEF EXPLANATION
Lightflow guides meditation without disrupting cognitive workflow through the acquisition of new qualia. A quale (singular) is any instance of subjective or con- scious experience, the information format of volitional attentional operations we can access and operate on. Qualia are the format of perceptual information and thought. This can be anything from the appearance of a red square, the taste of a coconut soup, or a friend’s face. You can become an expert at identifying a new quale through training, and the quale can be wired to immediacy. Immedi- acy means that there is no need for attentional allocation, further inference, or further analysis to understand a given quale. One can observe and understand the quale “without thinking,” or without the requirement of cognitive inference. We are born with basic qualia for sweet and sour, but aggregate qualia like pine- apple can be wired to immediacy: you know immediately whether you are tasting a pineapple or a kiwi. Lightflow uses basic color qualia and user training to wire mindfulness qualia to immediacy.
Lightflow leverages the psychology of learning and perception to communicate with the user subconsciously. Lightflow promotes mindfulness as people con- duct their usual business, whether that is working on a spreadsheet or watching videos on the internet.
Lightflow Background (LFB) and Lightflow Guided Video Meditations (LFM) allow the user to build a more mindful state of consciousness that can be created and sustained while other applications are in use. Lightflow not only has the capability to lead meditations in the background of other applications—Lightflow has the capability to create a more mindful consciousness via its mere presence.
