The biopic will cover Milly’s immigration from the war-torn Dominican
Republic in her early teens to making her life in NYC.
She arrived at a time when the original film WEST SIDE STORY was still in
theaters and lived in the Washington Heights part of New York , not yet
known as the birthplace of IN THE HEIGHTS.
It’s in New York that she transcended her native Merengue dance and music
style. Her talent, her passion, her energy, captured the hearts and imagination
of the growing Hispanic Community and won the world stage.
Milly became a pioneer with her female-led musical orchestra and continued
with her international solo career contributing to making Merengue a staple
music in all discos and parties around the world.
Her inspiring courageous Latinx story reflects the struggles of a woman
musician, a husband/manager relationship and the conflict of being an
estranged mother from her 3 children.
Milly is the little Dominican girl who became a Latinx inspiration and is a
positive example of the American Dream.
