Simply the BEST! 2021 Teachers of the Year

Southside is pleased to present the 2021 Teachers of the Year. This outstanding group of educators have a
passion for teaching their students. Each campus winner submits an application for the Trinity Prize for Excellence

and the district winner was selected by a committee of district offi ce administrators and the past district winner.

The committee members for 2021 were Adriana Bermea, Director of Bilingual/ESL, Marivel Garcia Hoggard,
Instructional Technology Coordinator, Gary Hiett, Special Programs Coordinator and Sharon Fuery, Executive
Director of Human Resources and Carol Calderon, 2020 Teacher of the Year and Trinity Prize for Excellence

Winner. Each honoree was surprised with a visit from the Superintendent and human resources administrators
and presented with fl owers and/or a gift basket.

Three fi nalists were selected by the committee based on the application submitted and the fi nalists were
interviewed by the committee in order to select the district teacher of the year. The fi nalists are Norelisa Tovar,
Israel Del Valle and Vanessa Guerra.

They were recognized at a Board meeting and each educator was presented with a plaque. The winner, Israel
Del Valle, was also presented with a check for $3,000, the fi nalists received $500 and campus winners $250.

As the district winner, Mr. Del Valle is a nominee for the Trinity Prize for Excellence. The Trinity Prize is a yearly
event to honor public school teachers in San Antonio and surrounding areas who are set apart in their teaching
practice through outstanding classroom performance, leadership in the school and school district, contributions
to the education profession and community service. *Not pictured is Heritage Elementary Teacher of the Year,
