The halyard hitch is another ancient nautical knot that is
                typically used for securing spars. It is easy to tie, very neat,
                and holds effectively under load.
                  In sailing, the terms ‘halyard’ or ‘halliard’ come from the
                phrase ‘to haul yards’ , and it is quite simply a rope that is
                used to hoist a sail or flag. Traditionally, halyards would have
                been made from a natural fibre such as hemp or manila.  other useFul Knots

                                         Feed the working end
                                         through all three wraps.

                                         Changing direction, take
                                         the working end over
                                         the first wrap and then
                                         under the next two.

                                         Pull on both ends to
                                         tighten the knot.
