the clubs coordinators and coaching directors if you have any questions or need any additional
`help' during the season.
The club website and social media platforms are also good resources and have numerous links to
coaching education materials.
We would recommend you search online for The US Youth Soccer Coaching Manual which is very
informative.
The following principles are what US Youth Soccer reference so that youth players receive a healthy and
positive youth soccer experience;
(1). Developmentally Appropriate. Making sure the requirements or demands of an activity fall within the
range of players soccer experience. (2). Clear, Concise and Correct Information. How instructions are given
is crucial when dealing with young children. Too much information overwhelms them and too little
information doesn't give them enough to get started. (3). Simple to Complex. Making sure the activites are
presented in a way that allows for ongoing modifications and new challenges to meet the player's interests

safe from environmental dangers. Making sure the training environment is psychologically safe, with the child
feeling emotionally secure. (5). Decision Making. Making sure there are opportunities for players to make
decisions, which may be spatial, temporal or kinesthetic. These need to be present in all activities for learning
to occur. (6). Implications for the Game. The activities presented in a training session must in some way
reflect the demands a player faces in the game.
The handbook includes 3 session plans with various activities and progressions that you could/
should look to work with your teams during the season.
The sessions cover the key technical skills of the game - Dribbling / Individual Possession / Short
Passing / Receiving - that will give the players thousands of touches on the ball as well making
hundreds of decisions.
Activities are - or should be - Age Appropriate, Dynamic, Organized, & Fun.
Each session plan can be modified and adapted based on the `level' of players in your group, and

sessions should be repeated during the season with the progression options detailed in each
activity.
Prior to the start of the season the club will host an Intramural Coaches Clinic where each
session will be presented and activities shown so coaches have chance to `see' the activities
as well as participate in Q&A.
