Message from the Interim Provost
Welcome to Bowie State University! We are pleased you have selected the state of Maryland's
oldest historically black college and university to complete your undergraduate studies. Located
on a 300-acre suburban site, Bowie State is in the center of one of the nation's most exciting
metropolitan areas, within easy reach of Washington, DC, and Baltimore, MD.
Home to more than 6,100 students, you will find Bowie State to be a vibrant and active, diverse
community of scholars, who are served by a cadre of distinguished faculty and staff. Notably,
Bowie State offers a broad range of undergraduate degree programs in our colleges of Arts and
Sciences, Professional Studies, Business, and Education. Convenient evening classes and online
courses are also available, and a specially designed, low-enrollment program is offered to
undergraduate honors students.
To help ensure student success at Bowie State, we provide the university catalog as the official
source of our academic policies and procedures, admissions requirements, academic calendars,
academic programs and course descriptions. The catalog also contains a wealth of other
information and essential details to guide you in your personal journey here.
Please note when students enroll at Bowie State, they come under the academic requirements of
the edition of the catalog at that time, except where policy within dictates otherwise. We
encourage you to read the catalog carefully so that you are aware of all academic requirements;
the social, cultural, and athletic opportunities, as well as the support services available to you.
Moreover, we advise you to remember the responsibility is held individually by you for the
information contained in this catalog as you plan your program of studies and move toward
graduation from Bowie State.
We look forward to working closely with you throughout your time as a Bowie State student, and
to the day we can count you among the thousands of successful graduates and alumni.
Sincerely,
Guy Alain Amoussou, Ph.D.
Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
