ART 270 INTRODUCTION TO FASHION DESIGN 3 CREDITS
This course introduces students to fashion design, Students will learn the basics of fashion illustration, as well as the fundamental principles of the
fashion network: Design, Production, Marketing/Sales and Communication
ART 295 Introduction to Textiles 3 Credits
This course surveys the technical and economic history of the textile industry with an emphasis on the chemical and
physical properties that impact the look, feel and drape of a garment. Students will analyze components of woven
fabrics, cut and sew knit fabrics, sweater knits and novelty fabrications.
ART 297 PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT 3- 6 CREDITS
Prerequisite: Faculty Recommendation or Permission of Instructor. This course assists the student in preparation and organization of studio
works. Emphasis is placed on creating a consistent portfolio to meet professional standards and the development of presentation skills. This
course will focus on portfolio development through the elements and principles of art. This course can be elected or recommended to assist
students in addressing any deficiencies in basic skills, knowledge and craftsmanship.
ART 299 ART SURVEY 3 CREDITS
Prerequisite: ENGL 102. Great epochs of art will be studied. Emphasis will be placed on art as a humanistic study and as a record of human
experience.
ART 301 ART HISTORY (PREHISTORIC THROUGH GOTHIC) 3 CREDITS
Prerequisite: ENGL 102. This course is a survey of architecture, the decorative arts, sculpture, and painting from ancient through medieval times
and the relation of art to the society and culture of each period.
ART 302 ART HISTORY (RENAISSANCE THROUGH ROMANTIC) 3 CREDITS
Prerequisite: ENGL 102. This course explores the nature of the Renaissance, European, and American art from the fifteenth century to the present
time, and is a continuation of the relationship of art to the society and culture of each period.
ART 310 PORTRAIT AND FIGURE SCULPTURE 3 CREDITS
Armature construction and practical experience in creating basic forms in metal, clay, plaster, wood, and stone will be provided.
ART 311 SCULPTURE (CARVING) 3 CREDITS
This course is a continuation of ART 310 with emphasis given to the development of individual projects. No prerequisites for non-art majors. Art
majors must complete ART 102 and ART 110/111.
ART 312 DIRECTED PROJECT I 3 CREDITS
Prerequisite: Successful completion of all Visual Conception courses and two 200 level courses directly related to proposed project area.
This course teaches students to develop and shape an independent, long term project designed to support students in independent exploration
of a selected problem and increase their expertise in seeing, editing, and problem solving. Students will learn to create work based on personal
concerns and values as well as increased their capacity to speak and write about their work.
ART 315 CONCEPTUAL THINKING IN DRAWING AND ILLUSTRATION 3 CREDITS
Prerequisites: ART 100 OR ART 111. Through a series of illustration based exercises and problems students will be helped to enhance creative and
technical skills for communicating visual concepts. Students will learn the professional processes of collecting reference work, creating thumbnail
sketches and rough drafts. Projects are designed to increase knowledge and understanding of compositional strategies, color theory,
conceptualization and exploration of materials and techniques. Students will use prior experience in drawing, painting, graphic arts, digital media
or art made from repurposed materials to develop strong and effective illustrations for the purpose of marketing, journalism or personal
expression.
ART 320 INTRODUCTION TO PAINTING 3 CREDITS
This course provides creative experiences in paint media. Emphasis will be placed on pictorial organization and various techniques.
ART 321 EXPERIMENTAL PAINTING (DIGITAL TEXTILES) 3 CREDITS
Prerequisites: ART 320 and 330. Formerly Experimental Painting. This course is a continuation of Art 320 with emphasis on using Photoshop to
create digital paintings, collages, assemblage, and mixed-media projects. Painting on textiles will be given specific focus and attention.
ART 340 VISUAL COMMUNICATION 3 CREDITS
Prerequisites: ART 231. This course is an overview of problem solving and decision-making in visual communication. This course blends
technology with creativity to give depth to an understanding of graphic design, imaging techniques, typography; image and color selection and
print service bureau interfacing. Focus will be on the successful application of elements and principles of design with raster and vector based
graphics.
ART 341 ADVANCED VISUAL COMMUNICATION: ILLUSTRATION AND DESIGN TECHNIQUES 3 CREDITS
