In 1922, Mount Tabor Mis- sionary Baptist Church was established in a storefront that had previously been a fish market.
One hundred years and four buildings later, Mt. Tabor remains a force in the community and a source of hope and joy to the West Tampa community.
The church has been led by distinguished pastor, Thomas DeVoe Leonard since 1996. While Pastor Thomas recovers from an illness, interim pastor, William Cade is shepherd- ing the church community.
“Mount Tabor has been a beacon to West Tampa for 100 years and I have to say to

A mainstay of the West Tampa community, the church’s visage is a comfort- ing sight to many African Americans in Tampa.
“Mt. Tabor has always been a place where people could prosper spiritually. It serves as a vineyard, where spiritual life can grow and prosper. The West Tampa community continues to honor our church,” Pastor Cade stated.

On Monday, October 10, 2022, the transportation sur- tax hit a roadblock when a cir- cuit court judge invalidated the November ballot question. Commissioner Gwen Myers stated that the Hills- borough County Commission- ers will hold an emergency meeting on Thursday, October 13, at 5:00 p.m. at County Center, located at 601 E. Kennedy Blvd., 2nd Floor.

said that “We want to hear from the public and to con- sider all available actions as they are presented to the Board on the Judge’s orders.”
“Today the people of Hills- borough County faced their daily commute with no sign of relief coming this November on the transportation tax.
