Warner University Graduates
A big ceremony was held for Tampa Bay graduates of Warner University in Lake Wales. The 2015 graduating class numbered 250 students ready to embark upon their future. (PHOTOS JULIA JACK- SON)

Tampa Police Chief Retires
After 31 years of service, Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor has retired.

Our Military Men And Women
Three Enlistees Complete U. S. Army Basic Combat Training
Three recent Hillsborough County high school graduates have completed Basic Combat Training as members of the U. S. Army.
Private Kenneth E. Pope, II, and Private Rogelio N. Ramos were assigned to Fort Jackson, in Columbia, South Carolina. Private Cory T. Smiley completed his Basic Com- bat Training at the military base at Fort Benning, Georgia.
All three soldiers were enrolled in a nine-week course where they studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, phys- ical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training.
They also studied drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksman- ship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, mili- tary courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
Private Pope, II, is the former ward of Keith Pendergrass, of Tampa. He graduated from Chamberlain High School in 2014.
Private Ramos is the brother of Rasheenah M. Waldo, of Tampa. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 2012.
Private Smiley is the son of Michelle Smiley-Wells and David Wells, of Tampa. He graduated from Blake High School in 2012.
Five Air Force Enlistees Complete Basic Training
Recently, five individuals with ties to the Tampa Bay Area have completed basic military training for the United States Air Force. 1st Class Airman Vanessa R. Alonso, 1st Class Airman Nicole Foy, Airman 1st Class Nelson A. Guerra, Airman Gonsalo Lopez, and Airman Ashtin N. Renee all participated in their re- spective graduation ceremonies at the Joint Base San Antonio-Lack- land, in San Antonio Texas.
The Airmen completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. The Airmen also earned four credits toward an Associate in Applied Sci- ence Degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Airman Alonso is the wife of Brandon Alonso. She is also the daughter of George and Janice Perez, of Tampa. Airman Alonso, who earned distinction as an honor graduate, graduated from Sickles High School in 2010. She continued her ed- ucation at the University of West Florida, where she earned a Bach- elor's Degree in 2013.
Airman Foy is the daughter of Leroy M. Foy and Charlotte M. Blume, of Tampa. She is also the sister of Jeffrey A. Foy. Air- man Foy graduated from Robinson High School, in 2014.
Airman 1st Class Guerra is the son of Eileen and Jaime Guerra, of Tampa, and the brother of Victor Guerra. He gradu- ated from King High School in 2007, and earned an Associate de- gree from Hillsborough Community College in 2014.
Airman Lopez is the son of Sandra and stepson of Hector Palomino, of Grand River, Ohio. He is the brother of Adriana Lopez, of Painesville, Ohio, Noah Palomino, of Grand River, Ohio, and Maribel Lopez, of Tampa. He graduated from Riverside High School, Painesville, Ohio in 2013.
Airman Renne is the daughter of Katie Renne, of Baldwin City, Kansas, and Christopher Renne, of Tampa, and grand- daughter of Delores Shaw and Sherree Stanley, of Baldwin City, Kansas. She graduated from Alconbury Middle High School in New York, NY, in 2012.
