Mrs. Rosa Scott Celebrates 100th Birthday

Tampa recently became home to a new centenarian. One hundred years ago on May 14, 1922, Rosa Mae Henderson Scott was born in Hawkinsville, Geor- gia. After living in Pompano and Sanford, her family set- tled in Tampa. She was the only daughter of Deamus and Annie Mae Howard. She had four brothers, Raleigh, John Carroll, Chad, and James D. Tragedy marred her younger life when JC and Chad drowned together in the Hillsborough River. Un- fortunately, only her brother Raleigh survived to adulthood.
Mrs. Scott attended Middleton and Booker T. Washington. She and her husband, Amos Scott were high school sweethearts and lived in Harlem, NY for sev- eral years where their youngest son, Tedd, was born. They had three chil- dren, Walter Scott, De- lores Scott Williams, and Tedd Scott, Sr.
Tedd Scott, Sr. states, “Growing up with my mother was wonderful. She is such a loving and giving mother. She raised us right, we had chores and she made sure that we did them. Even though she worked, she was such a strong, lov- ing force in our lives.”

Her memberships also include American Legion Auxiliary 167, Order of the Eastern Stars, and Loretta Ingraham Community Cen- ter “Golden Super Seniors.”
Son Tedd Scott, Sr. states, “She loved partici- pating in these organiza- tions and dearly misses interacting with the mem- bers which has been signifi- cantly restricted due to COVID-19 issues.”

“She is a kind and caring person. She loves people and being around her fam- ily, especially her grandchil- dren. She would have long talks with them about living a good life and being a good person. They love her very much.”
Mrs. Scott started working at Whiteway Laun- dry as a Presser. She left and went to St. Joseph Hospital, working her way up to Su- pervisor of Housekeeping. She worked at St. Joseph for
over 30 years and retired in 1986.
While Walter currently lives in Ontario, California, Delores and Tedd live in Tampa and look after their mother. Mrs. Scott has seven grandchildren, seven- teen great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchil- dren and one great-great grandchild on the way.
