Last week, a two-year-old child died after suffering from “long-term starvation” while in the care of his parents. Regis Johnson, 57, and Arhonda Tillman, 35, were charged with negligent child abuse after deputies said they neglected their daughter for most of her young life.
According to Sheriff Grady Judd, the toddler gained a single ounce in two years, since she had been taken to a doctor in January 2020.
“The baby should have been 32 lbs.,” Judd said. “The
baby should have been talking, putting sentences together, asking questions ... running jumping, and playing. When this baby dies on May 10, she couldn’t stand, she couldn’t talk, she couldn’t walk.”
Johnson told deputies the child had recently been fed, but a medical examina- tion found “zero food” in the stomach of the child and “slight traces” of fecal matter in her intestines, according to Judd.
The child weighed just nine and half pounds when she died.
