Soul Food Restaurant Reopens At New Location
PASTOR EVONN REAVES
BY LEON B. CREWS Sentinel Staff Writer
What started out in Plant City as a barbecue restaurant, has evolved into one of the best soul food restaurants in the area.
Mama’s Soul Food gained prominence in the area at their location on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Tampa Street. For 13 years from that location, Pas- tor Evonn Reaves treated patrons to special dishes that contained the recipes of his mother that have been handed down through gener- ations.
No longer located at the MLK and Tampa Street loca- tion, Pastor Reaves said their new location is better be- cause they have a better at- mosphere for their patrons to

relax and enjoy great food.
The new Mama’s Soul Food Restaurant is lo- cated on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boule- vard and 37th Street.
“Our volume has increased to the point that we’ve been able to open another restau- rant in South Tampa,” said Pastor Reaves.
“At our new locations, we will have the same great food, but more high-end accommo- dations for our patrons. We have better amenities, décor and I don’t think there’s an- other restaurant in Tampa that compares to this one and the one we’re opening on Dale Mabry.”
Including the time he spent running the barbecue busi- ness, Pastor Reaves said he’s been cooking for 16 years, but his mother has been doing
it her entire life.
“I’m hoping Mama’s Soul
Food Restaurant has set a new standard in soul food dining,” said Pastor Reaves.
“We are all looking forward to an exciting year, and next year we plan to have a big food party and invite the en- tire community to come out and enjoy some great food.”
Pastor Reaves said every dish that comes from Mama’s kitchen is authentic flavored, southern style soul food that has a taste that can’t be found anywhere else.
“We put love into every- thing we do, and from the feedback we’ve gotten from our patrons, we think we’re doing a great job.
“There is only one standard at Mama’s Soul Food, and it’s that the food has to be consis- tently good all the time.”
