Women’s Council Membership Social
On Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 10 A. M., the Women’s Council of Bay Area Association of Re- altists, Inc. will host its quarterly Membership So- cial.
The event will be held at Tampa Park Commu- nity Center, 1495 Tampa Park Plaza.
The guest speaker will be Ann R. Thompson,
Broker/Owner of Ann Thompson & Associates Realty. Ms. Thomp- son’s topic will be on “The Power of Connect- ing,” which will include leadership and motiva- tion.

NAACP’s ACT-SO ‘Sunday Showcase’ Returns

High school students will display their qualifying gold medal talents en route to com- pete nationally during the re- turn of Tampa’s Sunday Showcase. This annual fundraiser helps to provide transportation, meals, and ac- commodations at the National NAACP ACT-SO competition.
During the dinner and Sunday Showcase, attendees will also experience the NAACP Tampa Youth Council officer installation for 2017- 2018.
“We are excited to bridge the NAACP Youth Council and the ACT-SO initiatives during this event,” said Dr. Jawan Ayer-Cole, ACT-SO Chair- person. The winners competed with high school students from around the county, including a dynamic vocalist who will be featured from Lakeland and an amazing dancer from Blake High School.
ACT-SO is a youth talent- based competition created and hosted by the National NAACP Office. The National competi- tion takes place on an annual basis. This year the National competition will be held in Baltimore, Maryland. The qualifying rounds of the ACT- SO competition are coordi- nated by the local participating NAACP Office.
Winners from local compe- titions are afforded the chance to win scholarships and more on the National stage. Over

500 youth from throughout the country come to compete in the 30 plus categories of- fered. Students compete in five main areas - Humanities, Sci- ences, Visual Art, Performing Arts, STEM, and Business. All of the revenue raised from ticket sales goes to the Hills- borough NAACP ACT-SO pro- gram to support the annual ACT-SO competition.
“This year we chose to in- clude the installation of our new NAACP Youth Council of- ficers who were elected this spring,” said James Cole, NAACP Youth Council advisor and Branch Youth Works Chair. “In just two months the new team of leaders have co- ordinated new initiatives that will impact African-American literacy and intervene in the punishment of our juvenile court system,” Cole added.
