MR. BARTHOLOMEW BANKS, II
Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Bartholomew Banks, II will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2019, at 11 a. m. at St. John Pro- gressive Missionary Baptist Church, 2504 E. Chipco Street, Tampa, FL, Rev. Dr. Bartholomew Banks, Sr., Pas- tor/ Eulogist, with Rev. N. S. Sanders, officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Me- morial Park Cemetery, 4615 E. Hanna Avenue, Tampa, Florida.
In the fullness of time four decades and eight months ago, the Father of the Universe de- cided to cultivate a seed, that He had sown in the sanctified womb of one of His chosen chil- dren. And so He sent forth into His world, Master Bartholomew Banks, II, one of his choicest blessings, to the charge and care of Rev. and Lady Vanessa Banks, two of his most gifted servants. The dot- ing baby boy joined his two sis- ters who preceded him. Suffice ittosay, itwasagreatdayin the Banks household.
As the years progressively moved forward, the world would witness the matricula- tion of young Bartholomew into a man of distinction. Im- mediately upon his arrival “Lit- tle Bart,” as he was lovingly called by his parents and sis- ters, was a welcomed addition to the clan. He was loved, pam- pered and groomed by them all. His involvement in home, church, school and the commu- nity made him a well-rounded boy in his Christ centered up- bringing.
A few years after he accli- matized into the Banks abode, God sent him a baby brother. At this juncture, the trio of Banks children became a quar- tet. All of the children were im- measurably gifted and a friendly competition among them was always in place. Bart, II held his own. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior under the guidance of his par- ents and became a member of St. John Progressive MBC, where he flourished in the house of the Lord. He sang in the choirs; played bass guitar; played the drums; ushered on the Usher Board; was junior Sunday School Superintendent and Captain of the Drill Team.
His early childhood educa- tion commenced at Riverhills Christian School; to Temple Terrace Elementary; to Lomax; to Sligh Junior High for middle school, where he was elected as President of the Student Gov- ernment.
Bart really began to bloom in his high school days at C. Leon King High School. Here
he was a member of the orches- tra, the Jazz Band and Marching Band. Additionally he was Co- Captain of the football team and he was point guard for the Var- sity Basketball Team. His Senior Class of 1996 selected him as the most talented in his class. And he was the recipient of the Louie Armstrong award as the best drummer in the Southeastern region of the United States. Bart was also voted as Homecoming King and the Prom Prince.
After receiving his second- ary education in Hillsborough County Bartholomew, II, en- rolled at Florida A & M Univer- sity in Tallahassee, FL. There he sought a duel degree in Music Education and Business Admin- istration. Like most students his age, he enjoyed campus life and was involved in many extra-cur- ricular activities. At FAMU, he became a young man, one who made good decisions for him- self, because he knew whatever he decided, he had to live with. Upon leaving FAMU, he re- turned to Hillsborough County to seek employment. He found work as a Customer Service Representative, at a well-known local firm and he pursued his first love: music making and music production.
The young Debonair Bart, II, caught the eye of a local young lady, Sophia Hayes. The two of them developed a serious rela- tionship and were married. To this union was born three beau- tiful children, Bartholomew, III, Jas’mia, and Amon. Bart had a fourth child, Vania, with whom he spent quality time and made provision for her to have all of the things she needed. Bart was totally devoted to his children. He groomed and pushed them as he had been groomed by his parents. He was up-front and center at their myriad of in- volvement and activities throughout the community.
On May 19, 2019, the Father of the Universe, who implanted him in his mother’s womb and sent him forth to be with us for forty years, decided his legacy for his earthly life was com- pleted (the dash between his alpha and omega). God called him home after he had distin- guished himself in the eyes of his family and the world.
He leaves joy and a bosom full of heartfelt memories to his family and friends: two hand- some sons, Bartholomew, III and Amon; two beautiful daugh- ters, Vania and Jas’mia; loving parents, Rev. Dr. Bartholomew Banks, Sr. and Lady Vanessa Banks; two supportive sisters, Kenya Hamilton Banks and Dr. Barmeithia Banks; one protec- tive younger brother, Rev. Dr. Barron Banks; cousin/brother, Ramadan Marshall; mothers of his children, Dr. Sophia Haynes and Ms. Shena Woodside; best friend, Jamie Grant and a host of relatives and friends.
“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
