Deputies Arrest Three In Shoplifting Bust
Principal, Teacher Resign After Child Abuse Arrest

Two people were arrested for child abuse on Monday. Police launched an investiga- tion after learning about the incident.
According to the Tampa Police Department, a teenager became engaged in a verbal altercation with Ms. Kimberly Hoskinson, 49, while at an undisclosed loca- tion. Ms. Hoskinson is al- leged to have pushed the victim. Michael Hoskin- son, 53, is then alleged to have punched the victim twice in the ribs. The force from the punches caused bruising to the victim’s ribs as well as an injured wrist as a result of the fall, police said.
Police would not release any additional information about the victim.
When interviewed by po- lice both denied causing any injury to the child. Both were taken into custody and booked into the Orient Road Jail.
A spokesperson for the Hillsborough County School District said both of them re- signed from their posts.
Ms. Hoskinson, was a teacher’s assistant at Plant High School. Michael Hoskinson was the princi- pal at Coleman Middle School. Both were charged with child abuse, and were re- leased after posting bond.
Police Investigate Drive-By Shooting

The Tampa Police De- partment investigated an- other shooting in the Seminole Heights area Fri- day night. However, police said the shooting does not appear to be related to others that are being investigated in the area.
According to police, the shooting took place near N. 23rd Street and E. Lake Av-
enue. After firing the shots, the car sped away. It later crashed in the 800 block of Conover Street.
One person was detained. But, no arrests were immedi- ately made. Police have not released the names of anyone involved in the incident and have not identified any vic- tims with injuries, the inves- tigation is continuing.
Three people were taken into custody in connection with shoplifting from a local business. The incident took place Thursday afternoon.
According to the Hillsbor- ough County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the Bealls Outlet, 9624 S. High- way 301, around 12:30 p.m. The 9-1-1 caller reported a crime in progress.
When deputies arrived, they observed a man running away. After a brief chase, po- lice took 28-year-old Derek Thomas, of Tampa, into custody near the intersection of Boyette Road and S. High- way 301.
Deputies also observed a black Infiniti sedan, belong- ing to Thomas, fleeing the area. It was stopped at the in- tersection of La Petite and Andy Drive. The occupants
were identified as two 18- year-olds, Joseph Brown, of Tampa, and Ms. Alana Burnett, of Riverview.
Deputies searched the ve- hicle and found marijuana, a very large amount of store merchandise and clothes with the tags still attached, along with several anti-shoplifting devices. Detectives believe the merchandise was stolen from several different areas between Riverview and Or- lando, police said.
Ms. Burnett was charged with petit theft. Brown was charged with petit theft and possession of marijuana. Thomas was charged with petit theft, re- sisting arrest without vio- lence, possession of an anti-shoplifting device, and resisting arrest or detention in retail theft.
Man Jailed For Beating Child With PVC Pipe
    Ex-Correctional Officer Accused Of Taking Bribe Pleads Guilty
Police arrested a 35-year- old Tampa man and charged him with 1 count of child abuse. He is accused of beat- ing an 11-year-old with a PVC pipe.
According to the Hillsbor- ough County Sheriff’s Office, Michael J. Hernandez and the 11-year-old boy were in- side the Phase 5 Gym, 202 Moon Street, S., last Thurs- day. Hernandez is alleged to have “maliciously and repeat- edly” hit the boy on his but- tocks, legs, and lower back with a piece of PVC pipe. The victim suffered several contu- sions on the areas of his body where he had been struck.
During the investigation, police said Hernandez, who is 6’ and weighs 350 pounds, would punish the child by

making him hold a weighted bar. If the child lowered the bar, Hernandez would re- peatedly strike him with the PVC pipe on his buttocks, legs, and lower back.
Hernandez was taken into custody at his home Monday and charged with child abuse. He was released after posting a $2,000 bond.
A federal corrections offi- cer was indicted in September on charges of taking a bribe. He entered a guilty plea to the charge Wednesday.
Albert Larry Harris, Jr., 27, of Lake County, was indicted on two counts of re- ceipt of a bribe by a public of- ficial. A sentencing date has not been set.
According to the plea agreement, Harris worked as a correctional officer in a penitentiary at the Coleman Federal Correctional Com- plex. Beginning in June 2017, he began providing inmates at the prison with contraband (drugs and tobacco products) in exchange for large cash payments.

federal agent in Ocala and ac- cepted a $5,000 bribe pay- ment and 200 Suboxone strips for delivery to an in- mate.
He was taken into custody and charged. He is facing a maximum of 15 years in prison.
