Jordan Peele’s ‘Us’ To Premiere As Opening Film At SXSW
Takes No. 1 Box Office
Spot From Aquaman
Jordan Peele‘s “Us,” his anticipated follow-up to “Get Out,” will make its world pre- miere at the South by South- west Film Festival.
SXSW announced Tuesday that “Us” will open the 26th edition of the Austin, Texas, festival on March 8. Like Peele’s “Get Out,” “Us” is a so- cially minded horror thriller.
The film stars Lupita Ny- ong’o as a woman returning to her beachside childhood home with her husband and two chil-
dren. On the vacation, an un- resolved trauma from her past is unearthed leading to an eerie confrontation for the family with doppelgangers of themselves.
“Us” will be released March 22 by Universal Pictures. Peele also produces along with Jason Blum of Blum- house Productions. Co-stars include Winston Duke, Elisabeth Moss and Tim Heidecker.
SXSW runs March 8-17.
Kevin Hart isn’t hosting the Oscars, but he’s got a num- ber one movie.
“The Upside,” starring Hart and Bryan Cranston, sur- passed expectations to open with $19.6 million in ticket sales, according to studio esti- mates Sunday.
The strong performance of “The Upside” pushed “Aqua- man” to second after the aquatic superhero’s three- week reign atop the North American box office. Warner Bros.’ “Aquaman” still passed $1 billion worldwide over the weekend, becoming the first

After Docu-Series
R&B singer turned reality star Teairra Mari will be forced to pay 50 Cent $30,000 in attorney fees after a judge dismissed all claims against him in her revenge porn lawsuit, The Blast re- ports.
The Love & Hip-Hop Holly- wood star initially sued 50 and her ex-boyfriend, Akbar Abdul-Ahad, after the latter released explicit footage of her
on social media in apparent re- taliation for her ending the re- lationship.
Mari alleges that Abdul- Ahad broke into her Insta- gram account and posted the video without her consent. Hours later, 50 made matters worse by reposting the clip to his 18 million Instagram fol- lowers. Lisa Bloom repre- sented her in the case and a part of it played out on the show.

LOS ANGELES — Nielsen Music says streaming numbers for R. Kelly have nearly dou- bled after a recent documen- tary accused the R&B singer of sexual misconduct involving women and underage girls.

His music streamed 870,316 times on Jan. 2, the day before the se- ries premiere, but Nielsen said Thursday Kelly’s music gar- nered nearly 1.73 million streams after the sixth episode aired Jan. 6.

It appears Las Vegas, the prime destination for gam- bling and prize fights, is get- ting a new attraction. Drake has indicated rumors of him setting up a musical resi- dency in the city are true.
The OVO superstar hinted at his new gig in an Instagram post. Drake posted a photo of himself performing at the Wynn Las Vegas resort and casino’s XS Nightclub with the caption “New home.”
Drizzy’s tease came just a few days after he performed at the club on January 10 and re- portedly told fans he’d be there “all year.”

I thought it’d be back at T-Mo- bile Arena or some (stuff),” he said, according to Las Vegas Review-Journal. “But I’ll be back here at XS all year. You’ll have a lotta chances to see me.”
Well Ok then, how about this news we’re learning about what happened to Aretha Franklin before she died. Ap- parently somebody stole money from her.
Authorities in Michigan are conducting an investigation into the theft of Aretha’s as- sets before she died, accord- ing to legal documents, obtained by TMZ.
ARETHA FRANKLIN
The criminal probe involves someone inappropriately using her funds. A report was filed last June, but it’s unclear ex- actly how much money’s gone missing.
As we reported earlier, the IRS is going at her estate, claiming she owes more than $6.3 mil in back taxes. And, she’s being dogged over legal bills.
