Over time, East Tampa residents have becoming more and more concerned about traffic issues. Speeding and increased traffic has put pressure on infrastructure that has seen better days. This is especially true on Hanna Avenue, where resi- dents have repeatedly com- plained about speeding on the road.
Adding urgency to the sit- uation, the Hanna Avenue City Center project will worsen the traffic situation in its current state.
According to Brandon Campbell, Smart Mobility Manager, Mobility Depart- ment, the city is working to fix some of these issues.
He stated, “The City of Tampa did a road safety audit that included looking at traf- fic calming measures for the area surrounding upcoming City Center at Hanna Avenue Municipal Complex. The boundaries of that audit
stretched from I-275 to 40th Street and from Sligh Avenue to Hillsborough Avenue. The City of Tampa also conducted a Community Walking Tour with residents in the Summer 2021.”
Consultants on the road safety audit made a few great recommendations, including filling gaps in sidewalks along Hanna Avenue and surround- ing side streets, a new signal at 30th and Sligh Avenue, and a new left-hand turn lane on Northbound 30th and Sligh Ave. They also recommended a new southbound left turn lane at 22nd and Hanna Av- enue.”
“Construction will begin on many of these improve- ments in the next 18 months.”
“The City of Tampa will continue working directly with neighborhood leaders to inform community members on changes in traffic patterns and road safety improve- ments.”
Master of ceremonies Janette Souri welcomed the group.
Marilyn Roberts and Ellen Truss wish the couple the best.
