Congratulations to this week’s Spotlight feature, Shay. She is pursuing a professional career as a model and ac- tress and hopes the doors of opportunity will open for her in other areas. We all wish Shay the best, and again we congratulate her on being selected as this week’s Spotlight feature.
School Board To Consider Naming New School In Honor Of Attorney Dawson
Letters from the community have been received by the Hillsborough County School Board that placed in nomina- tion the name of Attorney Warren Hope Dawson as the name for the new Elemen- tary School “C” in Riverview. The letters asked that the Board honor Atty. Dawson for the legal help he provided over many years in the effort to desegregate the public schools of Hillsborough County.

Area 8 Superintendent, Shaylia McRae, has re- ceived letters of support for Atty. Dawson, as well as for- mer educators Doretha Edgecomb, and the late Dorothy York.
The deadline o submit nominess is friday, September 30th.
On Tuesday, October 4th, Ms. McRae will present the letters to the Board. On Tues- day, October 18th the Board will make its decision.
Entertainers And Vendors Join ‘Unity In The Community Event’

Anticipation is building for the “Unity In The Commu- nity” event that will take place on October 16th, from 12 noon until 6 p.m. The festive event promises to have something for everyone and that includes entertainment.
Ms. Donna Douglas, a member of the Positive Im- ages Committee said several performers and groups have already stepped forward to participate. Two of the local singers are Ms. Shannon LeGrande and Tony Jack- son.
In keeping with the promise of something for everyone, Ms. Douglas said others who are slated to appear at the event include: New Beginning Christian Blues Band, Kan- Dance Studio, Mo, who is a Christian rapper, the Bonny Franklin steppers and mem- bers of St. John Progressive Missionary Baptist Church.

“We are going to have step teams from local parks and recreation centers as well. We are inviting anyone who wants to be a part of the entertain- ment to contact us,” Ms. Douglas said.

“We want everyone to feel
welcome to come out and par- ticipate because this event is open to everyone. It is not about any one organization or person, it is about us coming together as one to realize our strength as one community,” Knight said.
“At this time, we have a va- riety of agencies and busi- nesses from throughout Hillsborough County signed up to participate. Some are public agencies, healthcare fa- cilities, an antique car show, and a children’s village, just to name a few, Ms. Triencia Washington said.
She further said some of the vendors include: Aaron’s House, TECO, Leary Techni- cal Institute, Gateway, Bank of America’s Career Source of Tampa Bay, HART, the Tampa Housing Authority, Hillsborough County Aging Services, the Homeless Coali- tion, and many more.
