‘Grown Folks Night Out’ Comes To Tampa
BY LEON B. CREWS Sentinel Staff Writer
Classic Hair and Beauty Salon owner, Ms. Gloria Shellman, has known “Chico The Leo” for almost 20 years. The young man is a legend in the Miami area as well as the entire State of Florida, and can get top recording artists to entertain at his events by simply picking up the phone.
Chico’s rise to fame was made possible by his vision and noticing that entertain- ment venues for older adults were few and far between.
When Chico came to Tampa to host a birthday party for Ms. Shellman, he quickly noticed that there was a great need for more “grown folks” entertainment.
So on Saturday, August 29th at Tampa Letter Carriers Hall, 3003 West Cypress Street, Chico will be bringing a taste
of Miami with him when he brings one of his artists, Sun- shine Anderson, who will perform her smash hit, “Heard It All Before.”
Joining Chico will be Tampa’s Randall C.
Ms. Shellman said Chico has been the driving force be-
hind the entertainment fans enjoy during the Florida Clas- sic.
“He brings the best enter- tainers, food, photographers and his own security team from Miami. He also buys out the entire hotel where the artists are staying to make it a complete fun-filled event for everyone.
“The only thing Chico in- sists on is that you have to be mature and very professional to attend his events. No one under 25 is admitted, and you must dress accordingly.
“Chico wants the mature crowd to not just have a great time, but carry memories with them when they leave. He knows the 15-to-24 year old group have their own venues, and he takes pride in distin- guishing a venue for people who are starving for entertain- ment suitable for grown folks.”

Company Raising Money To Do Film On Cop Killer
On May 19, 1998, Tampa Police Detectives Randy Brown and Rick Childress were transporting a 30-year- old man for allegedly shooting his 4-year-old son in the face.
That man, Hank Earl Carr, would make national headlines when he murdered the two detectives and a state trooper in his attempt to flee. The violence came to an end after a high speed chase, a five hour standoff at a Hernando County gas station, and Carr eventually taking his own life.
Last week, a small produc- tion company in California started raising money to create a short film adaption of that day.
The project, “Cornered,” is supposed to have a slight po- litical angle in encouraging

smarter gun laws.
The company has report-
edly raised nearly $1,300, and Sixth Sense, a short film com- pany, said they need $50,000 to create the short film that will be between 15 and 30 minutes long.
