Tampa Bay Gospel Legends Celebrate Third Annual Reunion

The love and sound of Gospel music has always been a part of the lives of African Americans. It has also been the catalyst for other types of music over the decades.
On Sunday, August 23rd at 4 p. m., the Tampa Bay Gospel Legends will be cele- brating their third annual reunion at St. John Cathedral, 3401 25th Avenue.
Calling this a “quartet reunion,” the Gospel Legends will be reaching out to all quartet singers to come out and be a part
of the celebration.
“The purpose of this reunion is to bring
all singers together, young and old, as one to work together in love and unity,” said Sister Marie Miller, Chair of the re- union.
“After our first reunion, we honored people who have been singing for 50 years or more, and we encouraged he younger singers to step up. Our goal is to help who- ever is in need throughout the community and also go where we’re needed.”
The Gospel Legends consist of mem- bers from different quartet groups, among them are The Exciting Gospel Warriors,
The Mighty Traveling Stars, The faithful Five, The gospel Links, the southern Tones, Prophet House, the Ottalo Gospel singers, Wanda and The Goldenaires, Grady and the Apostles, and friends and family members.

Ceremony Held For The Opening Of The Robert Saunders Library
More than 400 people took part in the ceremony for the opening of the Robert W. Saunders, Sr. Public Library last Wednesday on Nebraska Avenue.
At a cost of $7,845,000, construction began March 2014.
The new library replaced the 8,000 square-foot building with a 2-story 24,244 square-foot building that now has space for
a children’s library with special program- ming, circulating materials, and a walkway connecting it to Booker T. Washington Ele- mentary School. There are also display spaces for African American art, an African American library, and a community room, named in honor of Ada T. Payne that seats 350 people.
The prelude was given by Myron Jack-
son, along with the Kuumba Dancers and Drummers. The welcome was given by As- sistant County Administrator Tom Fass, and the invocation by Elder Theodis Lane of Greater New Salem P.B. Church.
