16th Annual Back To School Giveaway Planned
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Several years ago, Mrs. Tonya Lewis came to realize that the end of summer was a harrowing time for parents. It is an even more stressful time for those parents considered low-income.
So, she created a not-for- profit organization entitled “Children With A Vision, Inc.” The purpose of the organiza- tion is two-fold, it allows her to give back to the community and help underprivileged chil- dren and their parents.
Mrs. Lewis reached out to local businesses and organiza- tions and held the first Back- To-School Giveaway. On Sunday, Mrs. Lewis will cele- brate her 16th year of providing school supplies to the young- sters. In this manner, she feels she can make a difference in the lives of hundreds of under- privileged children.
Having outgrown previous locations, the event will take place at Ragan Park Commu- nity Center, 1200 E. Lake Av- enue, Sunday, August 23rd. It will begin at 12 noon and end at 6 p.m.
In order to obtain school supplies, every child must be accompanied by an adult and every adult must be accompa- nied by a child.
Mrs. Lewis said, “Every child may not receive a book

bag, but he or she will still re- ceive supplies in a bag. Our goal is to see that each child re- ceives some supplies.”
She further said parents or legal guardians must provide written permission for their children to be photographed.
“This is a park atmosphere with food, games, face paint- ing, displays and other activi- ties for children and families. But, parents need to bring their own blankets and chairs.”
Mrs. Lewis said the event is designed to keep everyone safe and members of the Tampa Police Department will be on the premises to ensure that that takes place.

Sinkhole Reopens On Property Where Man Died
In 2013, Jeffrey Bush was asleep when a sinkhole opened at 240 Faithway Drive, in Seffner. Officials were unable to retrieve Bush’s body from the sink- hole.
They enclosed the prop- erty with a fence and paved over the 50-foot. But, earlier this week, the hole reopened.
In a statement released to the press, Hillsborough County government said geo- technical engineers evaluated the hole and have determined that nearby residents may safely remain in their homes.
Code Enforcement officers will go door-to-door to update the residents in the area. The site is closed to the public and

Engineers are also evaluat- ing ways to strengthen the site
and the County plans to begin work covering it up. The sink- hole is approximately 20 feet deep and 17 feet in diameter.
