Artist Introduces New Stump Art Concept To Community
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Ronnie Moorer is well known throughout the Tampa Bay Area as an artist, collector, and entrepreneur. And, he has been teaching art for several years, so he stays abreast of the latest technol- ogy connected to the field.
Recently, Moorer cre- ated the two drawings using what is referred to as paper stumps.
Moorer explained that paper stumps come in all sizes and are used primarily for shading and outlines. In February 2012, he was work- ing on a drawing and began outlining the nose, eyes, and mouth with paper stumps.
“Then, I decided to just try and finish the entire pic- ture just using the paper stumps. It was very time con- suming and took me several hours to do.”
However, Moorer said working time is irrelevant. But did say it is a tedious process because there is not a lot of lead on the paper stumps.
“I was kind of excited

about just using this tech- nique of drawing and shad- ing without a pencil. I credit God with allowing me to cre- ate something like this.”
After completing the paper, Moorer said he went on the Internet to see if any- one else was using this con- cept. They weren’t. “There are artist using paper stumps, but none that I could
find who created an entire drawing by using just the paper stumps,” he said.
A native of Orangeburg, South Carolina, Moorer came to Tampa, in 1972. He had just graduated from high school when his family relo- cated.
But, his love of art began when he was in the first grade and predates his other ambitions.
A husband and father of 3, Moorer is a member of Nassau Street Church of Christ. The 60-year-old also collects antiques and arti- facts.
