‘Barbers Against Violence’ Hope Appearance In MLK Parade Will Help Their Cause
BY LEON B. CREWS Sentinel Staff Writer
Barbers from all across the Tampa Bay area have formed a coalition called “Barbers Against Violence (B.A.V.).”
The group was founded by barbers Sherm, Skeet, Tom, and Blake. Their mission is to bring attention to what’s hap- pening with Black-on-Black crime in the area, and offer so- lutions to stop the violence.
“The parade was a nice venue for us, and Blake’s Bar- bershop wants to thank all local barbers who came out to support our movement,” said Sherm.
“We hope this organization will make an impact in our communities with mentoring to young adults. Any barber
who wants to be a part of B.A.V. can contact Blake’s Bar- bershop at (813) 500-0269. It’s just another way to show we are concerned about what’s going on in our communities, and we are community leaders who can make a difference.”
Sherm said barbershops have always been the place to share ideas, tell stories, and just relax.
“Barbershops have also been a place to come and talk about your problems, and get solutions.
“When these young men come into our shops, we don’t know their history and we don’t judge them. But, if any of them want to vent or unbur- den themselves, we are more than happy to accommodate them.”
