Safe & Sound Hillsborough To Host Violence Prevention Event

On Saturday, May 19th, Safe & Sound Hillsborough will host its Second Annual Violence Prevention Conference. The event will take place from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., at Hillsbor- ough High School, 5000 N. Central Avenue, Tampa, 33603.
The theme for this year’s conference is, “Anything Is Possible.” It will feature workshops focusing on Mental Health, Bullying Prevention, Staying Out Of The Criminal Justice System, and Overcom- ing Barriers.
Freddy Barton, Execu- tive Director of Safe & Sound Hillsborough said, he has lined up several guest speakers, workshops, a town hall forum held separately for youth and adults, community builder awards, a youth talent show, and a scholarship presentation.
The guest speakers slated to attend the Conference include members of law enforcement, motivational speakers, and other local and national per- sonalities.

Officer Bobby White is a member of the Gainesville Po- lice Department. He responded to a complaint about loud music and was videoed. The video went viral and has been seen by more than 17 million viewers. He has since founded a foundation that has raised thousands of dollars to help re- build trust in the community using basketball as the tool. The trust is called #hoopsnot- crime.
Koran Bolden is a na- tional award-winning speaker, author, and the Chief Motiva- tional Officer of Dream Success World Wide.
After losing his brother to gun violence, Bolden decided to use the experience to aspire others. He has impacted more than 100,000 aspiring business leaders through his mobile mo- tivational app.

The Youth Summit will partner with TPD, HCSO on “How Do You See Me? An Exercise and Discussion with Law Enforcement.”

A free food truck and rally featuring a live DJ will be held as youth competitors prepare for the Youth Talent Showcase and Competition. Sir Rod Patterson is the former direc- tor of So-So Def Records.

A special feature of the con- ference will include a Technol- ogy and Social Media Workshop. This workshop will feature the youth teaching adults tips and tricks to moni-

tor social media platforms. The adults will learn about anony- mous messaging apps that can potentially pose a threat if abused.
