Jeweler Claims Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Owes $1.4M For Diamond Necklace
FLOYD MAYWEATHER
A Las Vegas-based jeweler claims in a lawsuit that cham- pion boxer Floyd May- weather, Jr. owes the company $1.4 million for a dia- mond necklace.
According to the Clark County District Court com- plaint, filed Sept. 23, The Jew- elers Inc. sold Mayweather a $3 million necklace containing 72 diamonds in September. The retired boxer paid the company $1 million up front and then made six payments of $100,000 between October and May.
After the last payment, the jeweler claims, Mayweather refused to pay the remaining balance.
Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions, said Friday that Mayweather had no comment on the lawsuit.
Last year Mayweather was ranked No. 1 on Forbes’ list of highest-paid celebrities after earning $300 million. May- weather, who says he has re- tired from boxing, currently sits at No. 54 with $44 million earned over the last 12 months.
Raptors Interlock Arms For National Anthems Before Preseason Opener
Members of the Toronto Raptors elected to interlock arms during the playing of both the Canadian and U.S. national anthems before their 97-93 preseason win over the Golden State Warriors on Saturday night.
There had been speculation over how each team might ap- proach "The Star-Spangled Banner," given the recent kneeling and fist protests in- spired by San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaeper- nick, who said his actions were in response to racial injustice and fatal police shootings in the United States.
While the Raptors locked arms throughout both an- thems, the Warriors com- ported themselves traditionally, save for forward David West, who stood roughly 2 feet behind the an- them line with his arms behind his back.

Source: 76ers Rookie Ben Simmons Expected To Miss About 3 Months
Philadelphia 76ers prized rookie Ben Simmons is scheduled to undergo sur- gery this week on the broken bone he suffered Friday in his right foot, league sources told reporters on Saturday.
The No. 1 overall pick is expected to miss about three months, which would peg his return in December or possi- bly even January.
Sources told reporters on Saturday that doctors in- volved believe Simmons suffered an acute injury -- caused by landing on another player's foot -- and not a stress reaction, and that the Sixers are supportive of a conservative timetable for his recovery.
BEN SIMMONS Colangelo said there was
"no way'' Simmons would be rushed back. He could miss months with this type of injury.
"I feel very badly for Ben to be in a situation to start his career this way. But this is an injury that he should come back from and have a very successful and long career,'' Colangelo said.

Concussion Protocol;
It only took until the close of the Cleveland Cavaliers' first week of training camp be- fore LeBron James spoke up about J.R. Smith negoti- ations and publicly stumped for the holdout guard.
"I hate coming into an- other season -- two years in a row -- with one of my big guns not here," James said, allud- ing to Tristan Thompson, who missed most of training camp last fall with a similar holdout situation. "So, for a leader of a team and for me personally, I just hate to deal with this s--- again.
"It's just too big of a piece to our team to have to deal with in another training camp. Like I said, hopefully things get resolved fast, because you know how big and important he is to our team."
James' comments came unprompted. In fact, a team public relations staffer told James he was free from media obligations for the day but James chose to meet with reporters anyway.

Thursday Start In Doubt
Arizona Cardinals quar- terback Carson Palmer has entered the NFL's concussion protocol after a vicious hit late in the fourth quarter, put- ting his status for Thursday night's game against the San Francisco 49ers in jeopardy.
Palmer suffered the in- jury with 5 minutes, 40 sec- onds left in the Cardinals' 17-13 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. On the play, a sack was split by Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald and defensive end Eugene Sims, and Palmer's head appeared to hit the turf. He was wobbly after being helped up by teammates and was met by team doctors and trainers at the sideline as he came off the field. They evaluated him on the sideline and then escorted him to the locker room, where

he underwent further evalua- tion.
At one point, Palmer's helmet was given to an equip- ment manager, who walked with it to the other side of the sideline, away from Palmer.
If Palmer isn't able to practice this week but gets cleared through the concus- sion protocol by Thursday morning, he likely won't play against the 49ers, Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said.

Like Thompson and James, Smith is represented by Rich Paul of Klutch Sports.
Multiple sources told ESPN that the Cavs have of- fered a three-year escalating contract to Smith with a par- tial guarantee in the fourth year, bringing the total guar- anteed money north of $42 million -- the same amount Jamal Crawford got when he re-signed with the LA Clip- pers this offseason, except his deal only included $30.5 mil- lion guaranteed.
