The Progress Village Mathematics and Literacy Fluency Center, Incorporated and Progress Village Founda- tion, Incorporated are look- ing for tutors to volunteer their time at the new tutoring center located at the Progress Village Shopping Center, 7919 Flowers Avenue.
The volunteers will tutor students grades K-8 in core subjects; math, reading, writ- ing and reading comprehen- sion one day per week, 6 p.m. to 7 p. m. In the future they will strive to conduct tutoring services twice weekly.
The two groups said they prefer active or retired educa- tors and college students earning their teaching degree. But, they will welcome any- one who has a passion to help the youth in the community improve and build upon their fundamental skills of reading writing and mathematics.
The service is provided free of charge and is extended to all students living or at- tending school in Progress Village.
Interested volunteers are encouraged to call (813) 677- 6438 or email pvtutor-
center@gmail.com.
The Progress Village
Foundation continues to pro- vide scholarship opportuni- ties for students throughout high school and up to age 25.
This year, more than 10 graduating seniors received $100 congratulation gifts, and another 7 were spon- sored to attend the college or university of their choice.
The Progress Village Mathematics and Literacy Fluency Center was estab- lished in 2013 and offers fun- damental assistance to bridge instruction provided by the student’s school. The goal is to provide assessable tutoring that encourages students and promotes educational excel- lence in the Progress Village community.
That is accomplished by building on the students’ fun- damental skills in reading and mathematics in an indi- vidual or small group setting. They also strive to build a more productive relationship between the parent, child, school and community, ulti- mately developing a greater appreciation of reading, writ- ing and mathematics.
