In recent weeks, rumors have circulated that AM Radio Station WTMP is once again changing its format. The rumors seemed to gained credibility when some of the personalities known to the community left the station.
However, Ms. Betty Sanders, General Sales Man- ager for the station, said the ru-
mors are not true. She admitted that there has been some changes in personnel. “But, the station is not in danger. We want to keep more local programming than anything. We want to tell the community the station is going to stay as it is, we not changing. We are making the format better.”
The station has added two new DJs, Stu, Hannah’s Baby Boy, formerly of 95.7, and Tony
“TK” King.
The station has also added a new show entitled, “The Word & Winn Show,” that airs from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. “We are reaching out to the community withablendofHipHopandR& B. We are giving local artists a platform by getting them on the radio,” Howard Word said.
He said there will also be in- terviews with Hip Hop and R & B legends during the show.
The station will continue to provide early morning gospel, the Tom Joyner Morning Show, the Mid Day Café, The Rev. Al Sharpton Show, and D. L. Hug- ley Show.
On Saturdays, Café Mocha, a syndicated show, addresses women’s issues. It is followed by “The Voice” with Preston Scoffield; “The Call For Help,” featuring Attorney Paul Re- bein; James Cole, with “The
Cole & The Cure,” and “Let’s Talk About It,” with Pete Ed- wards.
Sundays also features “some- thing for everyone,” ranging from Sunday Morning gospel to R&B.
Ms. Saunders said, “We want to have a good relationship with the community. Our philos- ophy is to keep the heritage and good people working from within the community.”
