Former Seahawks DT Tony McDaniel Signs With Bucs
Jameis Winston's Excited And Ready For Saturday’s Game
Bucs Activate WR Louis Murphy
The Buccaneers activated wide receiver Louis Murphy on Tuesday after he passed a physical.
Murphy had been sidelined with an ankle injury since the start of camp.
Murphy was the team’s third receiver last year. But rookie Kenny Bell and sec- ond-year pro Robert Herron have looked good in camp and could challenge Murphy for that role.
TONY MCDANIEL
LOUIS MURPHY
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed free-agent defen- sive tackle Tony McDaniel.
The team didn't announce terms, but McDaniel agreed to a one-year, $2.5 million deal, according to multiple reports.
McDaniel started for the Seattle Seahawks last season. He was released this offseason in a cost-cutting move made after the team signed quarter- back Russell Wilson and line- backer Bobby Wagner to long-term extensions.
The $2.5 million matches the base salary McDaniel was due to receive from the Seahawks.
A nine-year veteran, Mc- Daniel, 30, played in all 38 games during his two-year tenure in Seattle.
Ravens WR Steve Smith To Retire After 2015 Season
Baltimore Ravens wide re- ceiver Steve Smith Sr. an- nounced that he will retire at the end of the 2015 season, making it clear that he's choos- ing family over football.
Smith, 36, is entering his 15th season in an accom- plished career that has been defined by fiery competitive- ness and playing bigger than his 5-foot-9 frame. He and Tim Brown, who was in- ducted into the Hall of Fame on Saturday, are the only play- ers in NFL history to eclipse 13,000 receiving yards and 4,000 return yards.
He currently ranks 18th in league history in receptions (915), 14th in receiving yards (13,262) and 33rd in touch- down catches (73).
One reason Smith chose to

sign with the Ravens after being cut by the Carolina Pan- thers in 2014 was the proxim- ity to his family in Charlotte, North Carolina. He has previ- ously mentioned that it's still difficult to be away from his wife, Angie, and four chil- dren.
JAMEIS WINSTON
Throughout training camp, Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie quarterback Jameis Win- ston repeatedly has used the phrase "snap and clear."
On Tuesday, the media fi- nally got a definition of what he's been talking about.
"Every snap is an independ- ent event," quarterbacks coach Mike Bajakian said. "No snap, whether good or bad, de- termines the outcome of the next snap. He does a good job of putting the previous snap behind him and moving on."
Bajakian said one of Win- ston's strengths is his ability to rebound after a bad play.
Winston has a short mem-
ory and he had a short press conference Tuesday. Win- ston began talking to the media, but the session was cut to less than two minutes when the team's lightning alarm went off and players were hur- ried off the field.
Before he was cut off, Win- ston said he's eager for Satur- day's preseason debut against Minnesota.
"I'm just excited to get the opportunity to put on a Bucs' uniform and to play against a team that's a different color," Winston said. "That's very important to me. It's very im- portant to my family. It's just the beginning."
Cardinals Offer 1-Year Deal To Chris Johnson
Running back Chris John- son, coming off the worst sea- son of his career, is the fifth-leading active rusher in the NFL with 8,628 yards.
The Arizona Cardinals have made a one-year offer to run- ning back Chris Johnson.
Johnson, who became an unrestricted free agent after the New York Jets declined to exer- cise their option after the 2014 season, recorded career lows for carries (155), rushing yards (663) and rushing touchdowns (one) last season after signing a two-year, $8 million deal. It was the first time in his seven- year career that he failed to rush for 1,000 yards in a season.
He was arrested in Orlando, Florida, during the offseason for openly carrying a weapon, but officials decided not to pur- sue charges. In a separate inci- dent, he also was shot in the right shoulder during a drive-by shooting that left a friend with bullet wounds and the driver of their car dead.
