Mable N. Barthel-Smith is shown with some kids from one of her first toy giveaways.
BY LEON B. CREWS Sentinel Staff Writer
Mable N. Barthel- Smith noticed 20 years ago how some kids were having a marvelous holiday season, while others sat with tear- filled eyes.
“At that time, I wasn’t as- sociated with any ministry. I just felt compelled to do something, and what started out as an act of kindness, evolved into ‘Mable’s Kids Outreach.’
“There were a lot of trials and tribulations along the way, but staying faithful to God and keeping my focus on helping the children and their
families are the reason I’m still here today.”
On Saturday, December 19th at the Bethune Hi-Rise in West Tampa, Mable’s Kids Outreach will have a toy give- away for families in need.
“I want every family to e- mail me at MableMae51@ gmail.com, and I will give them the time of the toy give- away, and they can give me the information on their chil- dren,” said Ms. Smith.
“The deadline for sending e-mails will be December 16th.”
Ms. Smith said although the supply may be limited, she will make sure no child leaves without some kind of gift.

Knowing How To Pack For The Wilderness
Lord, I am at home wherever You are. Shine Your light on the path You have for me to travel, for I know all my days are in Your hands. Forgive me when I grumble or have less than a graceful heart about where I am right now. I realize my attitude will have a direct bearing on whether I wander round in circles or whether I get through to the Promised Land You have for me. Help me to trust You for every stop. Enable me to see all the blessings that are right here in this moment. I trust that Your grace is sufficient for this day, and each day that follows.
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. JOHN 10:27
Lord, I know that it is not where we are in life that matters, but Who is with us. So when- ever I have to step out of my comfort zone, or leave behind what is familiar to me to step into what is unfamiliar, I will take my comfort knowing You are with me and will never leave me or forsake me. Thank You that You have provided for my needs in the past and will continue to provide for me in the future, a You have promised in Your Word.
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. MATTHEW 7:7-8
Lord, if You call me into a wilderness experience, I will embrace it because I know that You will be there with me. Open my eyes to all the blessings You have for me in every moment of it. Whatever I need to lay down or forsake, help me to willingly and joyfully do so. I want to feel the solid ground at the center of Your perfect will. I don’t want to grumble like the Is- raelites did and end up wandering around for years. I want to learn what You have to teach me so I can move on into all You have for me.
When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.” MARK 8:34
